STATE TITLES - UNDER 16's IN CAIRNS - 16-19 September 2017

Hello all,

time is approaching when we need to start preparations for the forthcoming State Titles. Preliminary information as follows:

To all Regions,

As part of Baseball Queensland’s ongoing commitment to facility development throughout the extensive geographical footprint of our membership, Baseball Queensland in conjunction with the Queensland Government, Cairns City Council and Cairns Junior Baseball League will host the 2016 U16 State Titles in Cairns, Queensland from 16-19 September 2017.

Baseball Queensland has secured funding to assist in the cost of transporting the six southern regions to Cairns for the event. In an effort to maximise efficiencies and provide participants with the best value, Baseball Queensland has developed team participation packages that include:

  • Tournament entry and admin fees
  • All game balls
  • Return flights (Inc 23 Kg checked baggage/person), Accommodation (Inc Buffet Breakfast) and lunch daily for 16 players per team, 2 x coaches, an EO, a scorer and an Umpire for each team. (We can access flights and accommodation available at additional expense to your team if you want to include additional players and staff)
  • 2 x 12 seater buses per team for ground transport (to be collected by team staff upon arrival at Cairns airport). This means you will need at least two staff over the age of 25 that hold current drivers licence to satisfy hire requirements. Please consider this when identifying your coaching staff.
  • A tour to the Crocodile Farm for participants and staff on arrival in Cairns. Packages are available (for a fee) to include Parents and supporters in the Crocodile Farm tour.
  • BQ will also have access to a small vehicle pool to assist with transporting athletes (with team EO) to various health practitioners – other than emergencies.

Teams/participants and officials will be responsible for the provision of:

  • their own dinner meals.
  • Refuelling their two team buses throughout the event and prior to returning to hire company
  • Any tolls, fines, parking fees etc incurred in the use of the team vehicles. (There are no tolls between the field and the accommodation. Parking at the hotel and the field is free. Any travel your team decides to engage in is at their own discretion/expense)

Any excess baggage costs in excess of the allocated baggage per person. (BQ will be shipping tournament equipment up and back on a pallet, we may therefore have an opportunity to ship a limited amount of critical bulky items you may want to ship eg catcher’s gear, helmets, buckets of balls etc). Further info on this to follow closer to event.

This package is provided for $490.00 (excluding GST) per player (based on roster of 16 players) or $7840.00 per team (excluding GST). This is based on every Region participating and all Regions agreeing that the $490.00 per player ($7840.00 per team) is essentially the Tournament entry fee.

Event Hotel

All participants and officials will be accommodated at the same hotel and we will have accommodation packages available for parents and spectators who are welcome to stay at the same hotel. Further information to come shortly.

  • Players will be accommodated three per room.
  • Coaches and officials will be accommodated two per room.
  • Males and females will be accommodated separately.

Tournament Venue

Walker Road Sports Complex.

16-20 players. If you want to include more than 16 players each player can be included in your team package for an additional $490.00 per player, up to the maximum roster size.

If you choose to include additional staff please contact BQ to enquire about packages that include additional staff.

In the interest of full disclosure NQ Region will be invoiced $150.00 per participant or $2400.00 for the team ex GST. The QLD State Titles travel pool that has been in place and levied from all participating Regions to date has only ever contributed to the return flight expenses to get NQ to the State Titles. NQ have always been responsible for all other related expenses when they travel to BNE for State Titles. This levy factors for NQ’s contribution to the travel pool (flights) to get all teams up to NQ for the event.

  • Team to travel to Cairns  - Friday 15 September 2017 – this is a school day for most schools but the last day of term. Teams will return to BNE on Wednesday 20 September 2017.
  • Regions are asked to confirm their intent to participate by nominating and paying a non-refundable $1000.00 deposit on the team entry fee due by no later than Friday 21 July 2017
  • Preliminary Team Rosters (as per attached) featuring not less than 16 players (Max 20 players) will be required to be submitted to do@baseballqld.asn.au by no later than COB Friday 4 August 2017. This is to allow us to book flights and names are required to do so.

More information will be distributed in the lead up to the event. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Baseball Queensland.

Kind regards,

Gareth Jones - Development Manager - Baseball Queensland
